Virgo Fest – The Most Fun Fest of the Year

Every year I look forward to September. Not only is it gorgeous in Colorado, but it is smack dab in the middle of Virgo Season. Many of my favorite people in town are Virgos and it calls for quite the celebration. Virgo Fest is an annual joining of friends to celebrate 25 (give or take) birthdays and to celebrate (slash mourn) the end of summer here in the Vail Valley.

2018 marked the sixth annual Virgo Fest, and a new location for this event. For the past five years, this event was held at a house with a creek that had a steady steam in the backyard. Three years ago, we had this genius idea for rubber duck races.

2018 Duck Race Finalists

Allow me to explain. Participants buy-in to the race by purchasing a $5 rubber duck. Decorating the duck is optional but encouraged. There are three to five races where the “Duck Master” releases the ducks in the creek, and as most races go, the first to the finish line wins! After collecting all the winning ducks, there is a final duck race to determine the Duck Race Champion.

2018 Duck Race Winners!

This year, because we held Virgo Fest at a home with no creek, the challenge was to create a duck race course. Luckily, no challenge is too large or too small for Events by Marguerite, and the creative juices started flowing. Thankfully, I am a slip-n-slide expert, so a slip-n-slide take on the duck race course was the inspiration. Big thanks to Amazon, the one-stop slip-n-slide duck race course-making shop.

Duck Race Course in Action

Of course, there is more to Virgo Fest than just the duck races, but if you ask anyone who knows, the duck races are the most anticipated activity of Virgo Fest.

This year’s theme was a FIESTA…OLE! Rustic Farm to Fork created a Mexican themed menu and you know there were margaritas!

If you have a love for cocktails, you may know about the book, “Death & Co.”, a craft cocktail guide that inspired the margaritas. Guests who like a sweeter drink enjoyed a ruby red grapefruit rind-infused tequila Paloma. Guests who prefer a little kick indulged in a jalapeño-pineapple infused tequila sweet and spicy margarita.

Needless to say, a muy bien time was had by all, and next year’s Virgo fest has some big shoes to fill!
